Hope can be a tricky thing. It can give us great joy, or we can experience great disappointment when it is not fulfilled.
We hope for a variety of things: from our eternal security to favorable test results, from restored relationships to a good night’s sleep.
But what does it mean to truly put our hope in something? And what should we put our hope in? Is it okay to hope for things, even if they may never come to pass?
Hebrews 6 tells us that the hope we have in Christ is the anchor for our souls. This hope keeps us tethered to the unchanging promises of God for salvation and eternal life with Him. It also reminds us of the truth of God’s character and the promise of His presence, love, goodness, provision, compassion, justice, and care.
When we walk in hope, we can live every day with joy and peace, no matter our circumstances.
Hope is the confidence to wait on God when we cannot see the future.
Endurance is continuing to place our hope in the goodness of God when our circumstances tell us to give up.
And faith is the assurance that our hope will not disappoint us because the One who holds our hope is trustworthy.
Over the next six weeks, we will study the nature of hope and what it means to live with hope.
We will spend time remembering, studying, and proclaiming the character of God. We will proclaim the promise of Christ’s return, growing in our faith as we place our hope in who God is and what He has promised.
And we will explore how hope is related to love, endurance, and faith and how God uses hope to grow us in these areas.
As we dive into God’s Word using the Enduring Hope Bible study, may God work in our hearts and grow our confidence to wait on Him when we cannot see the future.
