Love God Greatly

A little over five years ago I got an unexpected call from a childhood friend. Though she had kept in touch with my younger sister pretty regularly, I hadn’t talked to her much at all in the twenty-five years it had been since her family moved away from our small Indiana hometown. Our front yards were only connected by that long, unkept gravel lane for a year, but through a series of joys and trials that year would bond our families together in ways that we never in a million years could have predicted.

She asked if I’d be interested in writing every once in a while for a growing women’s online Bible study ministry, and the truth is I hung up the phone that night and immediately told my husband that there was no way I was doing it. I had four very young children, a hard-working husband with a very irregular work schedule, and I was still trying to find my rhythm and contentment in the throws of some very intense years of motherhood. Oh yeah, and there was that one other very important detail…

I wasn’t a writer.

But God knew the days ahead that I couldn’t yet see. The next thing I knew, my husband was handing me a brand new laptop along with the words, “I think you should really say yes,” and I was calling Angela back – in fear and trembling – committing to the first step in this incredible adventure with Love God Greatly.

Now, five years later, Love God Greatly is reaching women in over 200 nations. You guys, I can hardly even wrap my mind around that, but that’s just like God, isn’t it? He’s the God of exceedingly abundantly, of perfect strength in weakness, of possibility in the midst of the impossible… for the glory of His great name in all the Earth.

He not only tenderly meets with me through my open Bible at my kitchen counter each morning, but right now His power and the truth of His Word is spanning across oceans, people groups, languages – even war zones and the hardest of hearts – and He’s breaking new ground through you and through me to reach the ones who haven’t yet heard…

Right now in Asia…

“In Japan, less than 1% of the population is Christian. Christians and non-Christians alike work long hours and many do not get home early enough to attend a Bible study. Even if they could, there was only one book in the Christian book store specifically designed for women’s Bible studies. LGG provides a framework for helping women study the Bible whether they can attend a weekly meeting or not.” – Laura, Japanese translator

Right now in Europe…

“I live in a country where traditionally only the priests could read and interpret the Bible. It is so empowering to be able to share LGG resources with young Polish students and encourage them that God can speak to them daily too! In Poland everyone ‘believes’ in God, but very few (.3% Evangelical) have truly put their trust in Him or His unfailing Word.” – Krista, Polish translator

Right now in Northern Africa…

Where humanitarian crises are far too common of a reality, where millions have been displaced, and many more are living daily with inadequate shelter, food, and water… “Just recently greater internet access has become available for people in Nigeria. So most women, if not all, rely on these online resources to be able to study God’s Word.” – Ebos, Nigerian translator

Right now in South America…

In Venezuela, where volatile political unrest reigns, where unreached people groups are located deep in the Amazon, where there are still 14 language groups without written Scripture… “When you live in a place where most women don´t own a Bible, where they have never been told that they can and must study the Word of God by themselves, you see women treasure what many take for granted.” – Edurne, Spanish translator

Love God Greatly

It’s been an incredible week of celebrating what God can accomplish through #OneWoman taking His Word to the ends of the Earth. Thank YOU for celebrating with us and for being such an important part of this vibrant community.

One woman influences her family. One family impacts a community. One community – bonded together – is a powerful force that can change a city; a nation.

All glory and honor to the One who so loved the world that He gave. Oh sweet Jesus, You are worthy.

At His feet,
